Zen Petals Artist Statement

The Zen Petals Collection grew naturally out of my earlier work, which focused on botanicals in their familiar, realistic environments. Yet the more I painted these floral forms, the more I felt compelled to abstract their message. The “flowers” gradually became less literal—shapes and impressions rather than identifiable blooms—set against backgrounds that were equally abstract.

To deepen the experience, I began incorporating handmade paper, gold wire, rhinestones, and pearls. I also layered in excerpts from one of my Chinese Feng Shui books, an homage to the idea that intentionality lies at the heart of beauty.

Over time, I’ve discovered that many collectors choose Zen Petals in pairs, allowing the pieces to speak to one another. When displayed together, they create a stronger, more enduring resonance.
